Thurston Hall

1900 F Street NW

Renovation Project Overview

Thurston Hall, a first year residence hall underwent a complete transformation that will provide a reimagined place for students to live, learn, and socialize.

A new three-season atrium, student lounges and community spaces with natural light feature prominently in the proposal for the complete interior renovation of Thurston Hall. The project plan was approved by GW’s Board of Trustees in May of 2019.

During summer/fall 2019, the university continued the design process, signed a Voluntary Neighborhood Agreement regarding plans for housing students during construction with community partners ANC2A and the Foggy Bottom Association, and filed its proposal with District of Columbia regulatory agencies, including the Zoning Commission. Due to COVID-19 vacating students from GW, this project began early in May 2020.

The renovated hall houses approximately 825 students in doubles and singles as well as faculty-in-residence and residential life staff.

Thurston Hall opened in Fall of 2022.

More details and filings are available in the Construction Updates and Regulatory Filings links.
