Square 54/The Avenue & 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue Community Partnerships
Square 54 is located at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW adjacent to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro at the "front door" to both GW's Foggy Bottom campus and the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods.
The site presents a key transit-oriented development location and an opportunity to create a dynamic urban "town center" with retail, residential, and office uses that would achieve shared benefits for the Community, the District, and the university:
- For the Community - Square 54 presents the opportunity for neighborhood-serving retail and services (including a contemplated grocery store), and a community gathering place.
- For the District - the mixed-use development would create jobs, generate tax revenues, and bring additional residents to the District.
- For the university - Square 54 is a key source of non-enrollment driven revenue to fund the core academic mission of the University, while enhancing the unique urban campus experience for students, faculty and staff who study, live and work in Foggy Bottom.
