Move-in of faculty and staff members' furniture and materials was completed in May 2014. Summer classes are currently being held throughout the building as we prepare for the fall semester. Punch list work continued throughout the building during June, before 9am and after 6pm, in order to minimize disruption of the summer classes. With few punch list items remaining, this project is considered complete. There will be no further construction updates.June 5, 2014

After hours work is permitted to allow for this work to continue with minimal disruption to classes and staff members working in the building during the day. Most landscaping has been completed. The next update will be July 1.May 19, 2014
Beginning Monday, May 19 and lasting for approximately eight workdays (including Saturday), the 900 block of 24th Street will be closed to complete utility connections to the Milken School of Public Health project and make related road/sidewalk repairs. The work will be occurring toward the southern end of this block of 24th Street - near Eye Street. Access to driveways and the City Hall parking garage will be maintained during the street closure.The work is not anticipated to be exceptionally noisy. Activities will include excavation of asphalt and concrete to enable access to the water connections, connecting the water lines, backfilling the holes, and repaving the road. Work is scheduled to take place outside of rush hour, between 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The utility connection is anticipated for completion Thursday, May 22. DC Water is expected to communicate to any residents in this block on Tuesday, May 20 as to details about water outages.

Furniture installation is complete. The building exterior, site work, and landscaping is scheduled for completion in May. Utility work for 24th Street has been postponed until after Commencement Weekend (May 17-19). Project continues to be on schedule for final completion so classes to begin being held in this building during the upcoming summer sessions.April 7, 2014
Beginning Monday 4/14 through 4/26, furniture trucks will be using the existing lane closure on 24th Street to begin to move furniture into the building. This process is anticipated to start at 7 a.m. and last until approximately 5 p.m. each night. During these times there will likely be multiple trucks on site but they are anticipated to remain within the dedicated lane already temporarily closed for work associated with this site. Beginning Friday, March 7 and continuing March 10-14, moving trucks will be using the existing lane closure on 24th Street to begin to move staff into the building. This process is anticipated to start at 6pm and last until approximately 11pm each night. Final inspections are taking place this week. Once complete, the office portion of the building will begin to be occupied. Office furniture is being moved in this week. Audio visual and data cabling/equipment installation is in progress. Work continues on punch-list items. Road work on 24th Street is still on hold while until DDOT reopens New Hampshire Avenue between I Street and Washington Circle. Weather permitting, plantings around the site and in the park will take place in mid-March through early April.February 4, 2014

Painting, ceiling work, interior woodwork, interior doors, hardware, electrical trim, exterior stone work, acoustic wall panels, atrium stair treads, glass rails, curb and gutter work, site wall work, roofing, and ceramic tile installation are in progress. Waterline replacements to the 24th Street townhouses have been delayed while waiting for the meters and crocks. These are expected to arrive on Monday (12/9). Back filling of the open trenches and removing the steel plates occurred on December 5. When work restarts, we will minimize the use of plates as much as possible while completing the work.November 20, 2013

Beginning in early November, DC Water will be working on the 900 block of 24th Street near the Milken Institute SPH Services construction site. This work will take approximately 2 weeks to complete. Temporary lane and sidewalk closures will be necessary to complete this work. Once details are finalized they will be posted on the Lane Closures page. PEPCO will be working near the new School of Public Health and Health Services construction site beginning late evening and working into early morning to establish permanent connections to the new building. The first half of the roof elevated slab has been poured. This marks the “topping out” of the construction site when the construction of the structure reaches its highest point. Recognizing the importance of the upcoming December 12-21 Final Exams period, the university is extending the prohibition on construction activities likely to be exceptionally noisy to 9:00am on weekdays at the sites for all of GW’s major construction projects, including the Science and Engineering Hall site. Workers can work from 7–9:00am during this time, but the work may not include activities that are defined in this Letter to Students (.pdf) dating December 10, 2012 – regular work may commence after 9:00 a.m. Also, work will not occur at these sites on Saturday December 15, 2012.Concrete footings will be complete this week. Foundation walls, and waterproofing are in progress. Foundation drainage installation and electrical work under-slab are in progress. The slab on grade is 70% complete. Framing and prep-work for the first section of elevated slab is in progress and will be poured this week.

As part of the excavation required for construction of the new building for GW’s School of Public Health and Health Services, twice-daily controlled blasting activities are planned for weekdays beginning as soon as Sept. 17 and will continue for approximately three weeks. The extent and duration of the blasting will depend on the amount of rock at the site – located between K and 24th streets, Washington Circle and New Hampshire Avenue— as well as other site and field conditions. Interior asbestos abatement and exterior limestone removal began in late March and will continue until completion anticipated which is expected to occur next week. Exterior limestone has been removed for possible future reuse in the new School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS) building. Some trees have been removed as part of site preparations. Interior demolition continues in advance of the raze of the building.
