F Street House

In 2007, GW President Steven Knapp announced plans to make the historical landmark located at 1925 F Street his private residence. Renovation and restoration of the property was completed in Summer 2008 with additional work in Summer 2009 on exterior garage enclosure.

Construction Updates

2009

October 9, 2009
Work on the garage addition is substantially complete. Final remaining punch list items will be completed early next week and remaining utility connections are anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks.

October 2, 2009
Painting continued in both interior and exterior locations. Shutters, light fixtures, skylight and garage door were installed. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

September 25, 2009
Windows on west elevation were installed and work continued on the ceiling. Project is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

September 18, 2009
Four remaining condenser units were moved to the roof of the new garage. Roof drain lines were installed. Windows on north elevation arrived and were installed. Next week, windows on west elevation are expected to arrive and be installed as well as wall and ceiling work in the mudroom and garage. Excavation will proceed in the rain garden area. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

September 11, 2009
Roof work was completed both on top of mudroom and garage structure. Aggregate stone was delivered and installed on roof. Copper cap was installed at top of roofline. Additional interior structural work took place in both the mudroom and garage. Two condenser units were moved via crane to the top of the new garage. Heating units were installed in the ceiling in the mudroom. Next week, the remaining condenser units will be moved to the roof. Roof drain lines will be installed in the mudroom ceilings. Drywall work will take place inside mudroom and garage. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

September 4, 2009
Pantry copper roof was removed and additional framing was installed in the mudroom. Skylight over conservatory door was framed. Pull-down staircase was framed in the garage. Garage door and pedestrian door framing were installed. Asphalt roof waterproofing was installed over the mudroom and over the garage. Additional brick detailing work took place. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

August 28, 2009
Interior wood framing, including interior roof of the garage, was installed this week. Framing and roofing above the mudroom was also installed. Next week, wood framing work will continue to take place. In addition, the pantry roof will begin to be removed. Additional brick detailing work will take place at garage corners and top of walls. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

August 21, 2009
Additional work on the new brick walls took place this week. The main horizontal steel support was installed over the garage door. Next week, wood framing work will take place, along with brick façade work over the garage door. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

August 14, 2009
Demolition of the top rowlock of brick took place this week, followed by installation of vertical steel supports into the existing brick walls. New bricks were laid in place around this steel support. A hole was cut into future mudroom wall, for the new window. Brick installation continues next week, followed by installation of horizontal steel support beams. Work is proceeding on schedule, with no delays expected.

August 7, 2009
As previously shared with the community, a garage enclosure will be constructed at the rear of the F Street House (1925 F Street, NW). Work will begin Monday August 10 and will continue into the fall. Weekly project updates will be posted on this page.

August 1, 2008
Interior construction work is substantially complete and the second and third floors are ready for occupancy. Minor items and initial punch list work are being wrapped up in various areas of the house. With project nearing completion, further updates will be posted only if needed.

Construction work is proceeding on schedule, focusing on interior painting and final cleaning, as well as exterior patio work.

Construction continues to progress on schedule, despite some minor delays due to weather. Engineering work (HVAC, electrical, and plumbing) continued on the interior of the building and foundation work continued on the exterior.

Construction continues to progress on schedule. Work this week focused on installation of interior HVAC and electrical systems, as well as continued work on framing for new walls. Foundations and footers continued to be put in place outside the house in preparation for construction of brick retaining walls.

Construction continues to proceed on schedule, despite minor challenges due to weather conditions this week. Exterior work continued to focus on structural updates, including footers and underpinning new and existing structures. Interior work focused on framing, as well as initial layout work for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.

Construction continues to proceed on schedule. Excavation work is nearing completion, and the foundation walls for the conservatory structure are now in place. Interior work continues to focus on framing and basement demolition.

Construction continues in earnest on both the interior and exterior of the building. Work next week will include finishing the excavation needed for off-street parking. The project remains on schedule.

January 25, 2008
Substantial construction work is underway on both the interior and exterior of the building. Site excavation and demolition of the existing conservatory are proceeding, with more excavation and hauling of debris expected to take place next week. Interior structural work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

January 18, 2008 
The University has commenced renovation work at 1925 F Street. Work in the coming week will include site excavation and hauling of dirt, interior framing and additional demolition work. Construction in earnest will continue through Summer 2008.
