I (Eye) Street Mall
Summer - Fall 2024
The renovation of the I (Eye) Street Mall project is designed to address public health and public safety concerns of this heavily trafficked area. The improvements will include major landscaping, the addition of lighting, the re-configuration of seating, and the replacement of trash cans.
Charles E. Smith Renovation
Charles E. Smith Center Renovation Update

As the university has worked on the proposed design for a basketball practice facility inside the Charles E. Smith Center, we recently discovered structural constraints that made the project no longer feasible.
Unfortunately, the extensive additional work within the existing building would significantly increase the duration and scope of work as well as require an interruption in the use of the center that would be too disruptive to our GW community. Accordingly, the university decided to cease moving forward at this time with a renovation of the Smith Center that would enclose the pool to add a basketball practice facility.
GW is continuing to explore alternative approaches to provide a practice facility for our men’s and women’s basketball teams. The pool area will continue to be used as the home for our aquatics programs as we explore other possibilities.
