SCHOOL WITHOUT WALLS PROJECT: OVERVIEW

The School Without Walls (SWW), one of DC's non-traditional public high schools, aims to utilize the City's resources to give students a richer and more fulfilling education. Located within the boundaries of GW's Foggy Bottom campus at 2130 G Street, NW, SWW and GW have collaborated since 1980 on a number of levels with the goal of fostering a mutually beneficial learning environment.

In March 2006, GW and SWW started a new chapter in their long-standing partnership. Following the February 7, 2006 unanimous approval by the DC City Council, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between GW and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) was approved and executed.

The MOU creates a public/private development partnership between GW and School Without Walls (SWW), facilitating a development partnership and furthering the existing programmatic partnership between GW and SWW.

This agreement is being championed as a model for the type of public/private development partnership that DCPS would like to promote to assist with the renovation of other public school facilities.
